Garden cat

I was sitting on the front porch at the end of the day enjoying the breeze and the view of my rose garden with my neighbor.  My cat Alex stood just inside the door trying to get my attention.  I brought him outside and sat him on my lap.  I don’t have to worry about him getting away.  Alex has brain cancer – he is blind and wobbles when he walks.  He looks disheveled.  But he was comfortably purring in my lap as I talked with my neighbor.  It wasn’t long before he drifted off to sleep.

Each day I wonder if it will be his last day.  Alex can stay as long as he likes but I’m concerned that I won’t know when his pain is unbearable.  He has some good days but I know he is going to die and I’m having trouble dealing with that.  I’ve told Alex that I expect him to sit outside with me each day.  He seems content with that.
